Spring Clean up: Complete survey and clean up of grounds to include edging of beds, weeding, and light pruning of winter damage to ornamentals and perennials as necessary. Mowing and sprigging of lawn. Checking and cleaning of gutters and leaders.
Mulching of Beds: Completed with Spring Clean up. We use an organic product designed to enhance the soil nutrient levels, add texture to the soil and reduce winter compaction. The mulch acts as a temperature regulator promoting root growth even in the colder months. Mulch also helps to conserve water. If you are interested in making your property more "green", mulch is a must.
Mowing: We offer mowing services on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. Our experienced crew carefully operates machinery so as not to damage delicate plantings, fences and garden structures. During the growing season turf will be mowed weekly on a scheduled day to a height of 2 1/2 - 4 inches. All lawn areas will be checked for trash prior to actual mowing. We always take care to avoid sprinkler systems. No Sperber landscaping mowing job is complete until the walkways are blown to push any clippings back into the grassy areas so they can decompose naturally.
Weed Controls: Our professional crew uses care in applying the appropriate product to your lawn and garden beds. We apply pre-emergent weed controls in the early spring to prevent weed growth. During the season products are applied depending on weather conditions to control pests, weeds and fungus. The high humidity we frequently see in July and August can lead to lawn disease without proper preventative measures. Organic products are applied whenever possible. Our licensed technicians attend regular classes through Nassau Suffolk Landscapers Growers Association to educate our staff on the latest organic materials and proper application rates and techniques.
Fertilization: Our professional crew uses care in applying the appropriate product to your lawn areas and garden beds. We apply organic fertilizers, that are pet, child and wild life friendly. . Our licensed technicians attend regular classes through Nassau Suffolk Landscapers Growers Association to educate our staff on the latest organic materials and proper application rates and techniques. We are members of the New York State organization Be Green and are committed to being stewards of our environment.
Pruning: Our program includes pruning services with each visit for your perennials. The hedges are usually pruned once in July. The large shade trees are generally pruned in late fall or early winter. Pruning is an important part of landscape maintenance. The removal of dead and dying branches from trees acts to promote growth of smaller shrubs and perennials by allowing more light to filter through to the ground. It also helps provide the tree with more air flow through the branches. During high wind conditions this can make the difference between a catastrophic event (branch crashing through your roof) and no damage at all.
Fall Clean-up: Complete clean-up of debris and leaves from grounds, final mowing of lawns, edging of beds, cutting back of perennials, disposal of annuals, removal of soil from planters and store if necessary and cleaning of gutters. It is important to remove the fallen leaves from your lawn area before snow covers the ground. If the leaves are allowed to rot on top of the grass disease and fungus can result.

Spring charging of the system - During this service all heads are inspected for proper functioned, dirt and debris are cleaned out and the heads are adjusted for appropriate water coverage. The system controller is set for weather appropriate watering times. A new battery is installed.
System Monitoring – During the season our trained technicians make bi-weekly visits to your home to check that your plantings are receiving the appropriate amount of water for the weather conditions. The degree of humidity, inches of rain and temperature all play an important role in setting the watering times. This service is an important part in our companies commitment to being a Green Landscaper – water conservation is an important component in our commitment to being stewards of the environment.
Winterization of the system – during this service your system is energized one zone at a time. The lines are cleared of all water. Each zone is checked for leaks and broken or malfunctioning heads. A report is made and sent to each home owner so there are no surprises in the Spring when the system is opened. Our technicians are dispatched with the parts necessary to get your system up and running in one visit.
The main reasons for pruning ornamental and shade trees include safety, health, and aesthetics. In addition, pruning can be used to stimulate fruit production and increase the value of timber. Pruning for safety (Fig. 1A) involves removing branches that could fall and cause injury or property damage, trimming branches that interfere with lines of sight on streets or driveways, and removing branches that grow into utility lines. Safety pruning can be largely avoided by carefully choosing species that will not grow beyond the space available to them, and have strength and form characteristics that are suited to the site.
Pruning for health (Fig. 1B) involves removing diseased or insect-infested wood, thinning the crown to increase airflow and reduce some pest problems, and removing crossing and rubbing branches. Pruning can best be used to encourage trees to develop a strong structure and reduce the likelihood of damage during severe weather. Removing broken or damaged limbs encourages wound closure.
Pruning for aesthetics (Fig. 1C) involves enhancing the natural form and character of trees or stimulating flower production. Pruning for form can be especially important on open-grown trees that do very little self-pruning.
